Andover Borough is a compact Sussex County community centered on Main Street, historic iron-working sites and a long-established antique-shopping district. The borough is distinct from surrounding Andover Township even though both use the Andover name and the 07821 mailing area.

History & character

Iron heritage

The Iron Works at Andover

William Allen and Joseph Turner developed iron operations here in the 1760s. During the Revolutionary War, the works became strategically important and were taken under Continental control after the owners were treated as Loyalists.

Historic district

Iron Master’s Mansion & Grist Mill Stone House

Historic structures on Main Street and Grist Mill Lane preserve the borough’s early industrial story and form part of the Andover Borough Historic District.

Main Street “Antique Row”

Andover’s Main Street remains a destination for antiques, vintage goods, lighting, home décor and resale shopping, with several active stores clustered within a short stretch.

Trails

Sussex Branch Trail

The former railroad corridor now supports walking, cycling, horseback riding and cross-country skiing and runs directly through the borough.

The borough’s main active-recreation complex includes ball fields, basketball, soccer space, playground facilities and the senior/community center.

Sunset Vista Park

Prospect Avenue

A passive neighborhood park with a pavilion and wide sunset views.

A small passive park with a gazebo near the Brighton Avenue / Route 206 area.
